Chunks Methodology, follows the Lexical Approach, where emphasis is given to ‘strings of language’ or ‘lexical patterns‘ in promoting understanding of underlying grammatical structures. These lexical patterns, found in language use, are also known as “lexical phrases”,” lexical items”,” multi-word chunks” or just “chunks” of language. These are generally fixed expressions, similes, idioms, collocations, and phrasal verbs.In this book Manjula Duraiswamy, discusses what chunks are - various attributes of chunks, types of chunks, how they operate in a language, and the role they play in language acquisition and production.
