By virtue of its use and construction, textiles interweave a variety of different themes. Thus the book’s uniqueness lies in its multifaceted treatment of the medium. Each essay takes a different methodological or personal approach in the form of a “thread,” be it curatorial, postcolonial, industrial or traditional. These chapters are illustrated with work by contemporary artists, some of whom use textiles as their main medium and others who encounter it only sparingly.
