- PREFACE Anarchy (L'anarchia) was published for the first time in London in 1891 in Italian. It is a fundamental text for the anarchist movement and is experiencing in this early twenty-first century a new popularity. This new translation wants to contribute to the rediscovery of an author and a point of view that holds together anarchism, socialism and solidarity. Malatesta was friend of Bakunin, internationalist after being a Mazzinian (republican, in opposition to the monarchy), in the forefront of the Egyptian revolution of 1882, co-founder of the first Argentinean trade union, arrested in England, Egypt, Argentina and Italy, wanted by the French and Spanish police. Malatesta collects his thoughts in a particular moment of European and world events, in 1891, immediately after the founding of the Second International and just before the founding of the Italian Socialist Party, moments that mark the separation of the anarchist current from the rest of the history of the Italian and European left.
