- Purpose: Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Basic Doctrine, Publication 1.0 (Pub 1.0), provides decision-makers and intelligence producers with a foundational understanding of GEOINT to aid in planning and executing their missions. This document serves as a common reference for the GEOINT Enterprise Community and is designed to be readily understood by both GEOINT consumers and new producers. Pub 1.0 complements Joint Publication 2-03, Geospatial Intelligence Support to Joint Operations, and provides a high-level, unclassified overview of GEOINT doctrine.Pub 1.0 is prepared under the guidance of the Geospatial Intelligence Functional Manager (GFM), designated by Executive Order 12333 and led by the Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). It documents the roles, responsibilities, and governance framework of the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG), as well as the GEOINT Manager's functions within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community (IC).Scope: This document supersedes the September 2006 version of Pub 1.0 and outlines fundamental principles guiding the NSG's operations. Topics include the legal definition of GEOINT, data sources, GEOINT products, professional roles, and the governance framework. While the document acknowledges advancements like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics, these are beyond the scope of this introductory publication.Applicability: Pub 1.0 applies to the NSG, its partners, and the GEOINT Enterprise.
