Proper application is key for success—Step 1: Wet 16 ToeGrips in isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Step 2: Stabilize the toe and press a wet ToeGrip onto the nail tip. Step 3: Push the top and sides of the ToeGrip into place using your fingernails or fingertips until the nail tip is exposed. The bottom portion of the ToeGrip shouldn't be pushed up the nail because it must contact the ground to provide traction. Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3 for all 16 nails. (ToeGrips shouldn't be applied to the dewclaws.) Important: Don't assume ToeGrips are too small because they don't easily slide onto the nails. Properly sized, ToeGrips should fit snugly. (ToeGrips package contains illustrated instructions.)
ToeGrips stay in place on most dogs’ nails through simple friction. Gluing ToeGrips in place is an alternate method of application recommended for three-legged dogs, dogs who drag or scuff their paws, and dogs with neurologic conditions. These dogs have an altered gait that can tug the ToeGrips off the nails. Super glue is the simple solution to keep the ToeGrips securely in position. We recommend applying ToeGrips without glue first to ensure that you are comfortable with application and placement, and using the glue only if needed. (Illustrated instructions for gluing ToeGrips are included in the package.)
