- In the 1200 AD, Jews settled in the Chinese town of Kaifeng. In the 1920's, Iraqi Jews were some of Shanghai's the richest citizens. By 1949, 50,000 Jewish refugees had escaped Europe to settle in Shanghai. In 2000, the US stopped Israel from selling AWACS technology to China. In 2014, China evacuated their oilfield workers from ISIS controlled Kurdish northern Iraq while US fighters, Kurdish peshmerga and Israeli intelligence try to retake those oil fields. Why were they together? This Historical Fiction begins when, in 2001, ex-oilfield worker/now art critic Joe Fleischer sees Chinese artwork combining coded Kabbalah and I Ching symbols at a Shanghai art exhibition. While deciphering the symbols, Joe discovers an Israeli/Chinese plot hatched by early Chinese Communists and wealthy Iraqi Jewish immigrants in 1934 at Shanghai Feldman's Fashion Co. to take over Iraqi oilfields. He also inadvertently summons gods and archangels disguised as his editor, Nüwa, Fuxi, disguised as a chameleon-like calligrapher, the Archangel Gabriel, disguised as a Chinese scholar and Archangels Raphael and Auriel, disguised as two Chinese Jewish Rabbis. While Nüwa and Fuxi meet an Israeli agent in Shanghai to coordinate their plan, Joe, Gabriel and Auriel go to Kaifeng, a 1000 year-old Jewish settlement and meet Raphael who reveals Kabbalah codebooks. When Joe returns to Shanghai, he and his three Chinese cohorts perform obscure ceremonies that give Joe more clues to Chinese/Israeli plan. This Historical Fiction ends with the god's watching the humans deal with their problems while Joe and Nüwa deal with their own unexpected involvement.
